An interesting point, I am sure TOC's are not subject to the FOI, but East Coast being run by the government at the moment would likely make it an exception.

Anyone fancy asking then for full copy of the manual?

I've attached a copy of the East Coast excess rules (obtained by FoI request) - they should be inline with national policies, but may go beyond them...

They're broadly in line with the rules that applied in February 2010, but not with the rules that were brought in in September 2010.

And in East Coast's case, most of their on-train excesses will be under a different set of rules to those applied at stations, as you'd generally have had an "opportunity to buy" before boarding the train.

Change of ticket type and change of route excess are the same on board if there was opportunity to buy, as they would be from the ticket office. Some guards may need 'reminding' of this.

Just remember that you can only submit FoI requests to public bodies.

As side DPA (data protection act) requests can be made to any body and are a diffrent thing

Others have summed this up quite well. You can request it of any public body - so the only TOC at the moment is East Coast, but Department of Transport can have some interesting information also.
