Hi

I hold a Super Off Peak Single for London to Taunton. I wish to excess the ticket to a 1st Class Advance which is a cheaper price.

I asked at the Ticket Office at Birmingham New Street but was unable to convince them it was possible. The advance fare is cheaper so no extra due but I mentioned perhaps a £10 admin fee would apply but they were insistent it couldn't be done.

I understand this may be a 'shop around' enquiry but presumably it is possible?

AIUI, having just checked the relevant page of the forum, you have to buy the new ticket and get the unused one refunded. Cost is the same, process different depending who issued it.

You won't find many people who would do that excess (if you find one they'll need retraining). As 30907 says, the original ticket should be refunded and a new ticket purchased. The net result would be the cost of a 1st class Advance and a ten pound admin fee. Note, however, that the refund would have to be processed by the company you bought it from.
