I make this journey most weeks, I have the choice of getting on the main Edinburgh-Glasgow train that terminates at Queen Street, walking to Central Low Level then getting on the next service that stops at Bridgeton. Or I can get on a service that stops at Bellshill and change onto a Dalmuir service that stops at Bridgeton.
There is two ticket routing options available - Any Permitted or Not via Glasgow. I've just been buying the Any Permitted ticket regardless of the train I get to give me flexibility - the later at night it gets the more restrictive a Not Via Glasgow ticket becomes! My question is if I was to buy the more restrictive ticket them found that I'd rather go via Glasgow than wait, is it possible to excess a Route 'Not Via Glasgow' to 'Any Permitted'? The ticket would be an Off Peak Day Return, discounted with a 16-25 Railcard.
A friend was refused an excess at the Central Low Level gateline (it was 23:30 at night - Bridgeton ticket office had closed) and had to buy a new Anytime Single to Edinburgh. Was this correct? I was doubtful?
