excess or new ticket?

i was going to use a return half an off peak return to travel Paddington to Didcot but my plans have changed i will be going straight back to abergavenny.
what will be the cheapest way to do this? an excess or a ticket from didcot?

New ticket - excess would be the full return. I can't check fares now but think it is cheaper to split at Didcot in any case.

You will need to take a train which stops at Didcot with a new ticket of course.

LexyBoy is correct; it is cheaper to buy a super off peak single for Didcot - Abergavenny at £27.30 than pay for the difference between the two off peak returns.

Be aware, however, that if you get a Didcot Parkway - Abergavenny ticket instead of the Excess you will need to get a train which calls at Didcot Parkway for the combination to be valid.

If you must get an xx45 train then buy a single from Reading to Abergavenny for £31.50
