Earlier today at around 6pm.

First of all a class 56/69 thundered through on the up slow with a short freight. I thought 56s had all gone but certainly sounded like one?

Then moments later a top and tail engineering train headed north on the down slow with Class 50s 'Hercules' and 'Defiance' on show.

Certainly made a change from the usual. Any idea what these workings were?

As I just posted in another thread - the 2x50s were used to bring down a new Anglia EMU and were presumably on their way home with the translator coaches.

Thanks for this.

The 56 was accelerating hard in spite of being on the downgrade, was clearly following a service which had just stopped at Harrow and Wealdstone.
