Examples of Platforms built out over old tracks

Hello All

I am wondering if people could suggest examples of stations where platforms have been extended out over old tracks. For example, at Princes Risborough the down slow was lifted and the down platform extended outwards to provide an interface with the down fast line.

Platform 1 at Gravesend was built over what used to be the up through line, thus converting the station from four tracks and two platforms to three each.

There’s several on the Chiltern Main Line, aren’t there?
Pushing at the boundaries a bit but Bath Spa had a track realignment to flatten the curvature / lengthen the platforms ahead of the IET invasion. This entailed widening at least one of the platforms and slewing the track inwards so that the two tracks are now a lot closer than they had been.

West Croydon platform 3 extended over the old platform 2 which was used for the Wimbledon to West Croydon line bay.

Clapham Junction Platform 2
There were originally three tracks between (old) platform 2 and platform 3. (platform 1/2 was an island, but platform 1 had been disused for many years)

When what is now the Windrush Line was extended to Clapham Junction part of the island platform 1/2 was extended out over the track serving platform 2, so that trains on the middle track could be boarded from it. This became the new platform 2. The stub of the track that had been built over was renumbered 1, served by the unwidened part of the island platform and used by trains on what is now the Mildmay Line.

If ever the disused face of the island is brought back into use, it will presumably be platfrom 0

At Tunbridge Wells many years ago (100 plus) the up platform was lengthened at the southern end over what was a small goods yard, The rest of the land what was the goods yard was filled on and became a car park.

Farringdon platform 3 extended to cope with 12 car trains, which meant that the branch to Moorgate could no longer be accessed.

Closure of Moorgate branch took place in or around March 2009.

The platforms at Gilberdyke. The formation used to be 4-track - the central 2 tracks were retained and new platforms built over the trackbed of the old outer tracks.

Not sure if either of these really count.

The Atherton line used to be 4 track, and Hag Fold station was built after it was reduced to 2, so the platforms are where some of the track used to be.
Wigan North Western's platform 2 was removed to extend P3 to fit 4 carriages, but that was because of a junction and extends the track rather than the platform.

I am not sure if this counts-

Uckfield new station (opened in 1991 north of the level crossing) was built on the site of the old down line.
This was built after the line was singled and the old station south of the level crossing was closed.

Tiverton Parkway is built on the site of the former Sampford Peverell station, with the platforms situated on top of the former loop lines.

On the Underground, 4 stations with inadequate island platforms on the Northern Line (Euston Bank branch, Angel, Bank and London Bridge) have been very expensively rebuilt with a new running tunnel and platform in one direction, and the other platform/concourse extended over the replaced track.

West Ruislip (DN), Denham (DN), Gerrards Cross (UP), St Erth (the 2 bay platforms were merged into one). When Haddenham & Thame Parkway was originally opened the platform was originally on the DN Line, so when the line was redoubled it had to moved. Wavertree Technology Park;

An odd one is Market Harborough when the MML was straightened so the platforms moved and covered the old alignment.

South Bermondsey was resited in 1920s as an island platform covering the former centre 3rd line.
similarly Queens Road Peckham was rebuilt as an island platform in the 1970s on the site of the former centre line and the original side platforms removed.
Balham slow lines platforms were originally side platforms and tracks realigned (in the 1950s ?) to build an island platform

The present Epsom station was built as two island platforms in the 1920s on the former LBSCR through lines as the LSWR station were side platforms serving the outside up and down lines.

Swindon - down platform was closed for passengers and used for mails/parcels. It was later rebuilt and reopened for passenger trains.

A new entry is Welshpool which was resited in 1992 on site of former sidings.

Port Sunlight - was on a 4 track section of line which only had platforms on the two outer tracks which were paired by speed - never sure which was which. Line reduced to 3 tracks and new platform built on the old up line. Then eventually reduced to 2 tracks as per current layout.
