Unless anything has altered Virgin don't have a Depot at New st. Wolverhampton cover the area. I would assume it would be a Liverpool/Manchester Driver.

Back in the days when the 053x was a 390, there was a small team of welshie Virgin TMs based in Holyhead. Never been on a 390 that empty! I recall one chap, can't remember if he was bald or ginger, but he was most definitely not English.

Anyway, I digress. I would assume there're still there today?

Liverpool and Manchester drivers sign Birmingham and Wolves and have booked jobs there regularly, and could theoretically work it all the way from Birmingham to Holyhead, though I believe in this case it's a Wolves driver as far as Crewe, and one of the others along the coast. As of last year when I left the company it was a Wolves TM to Crewe, a Preston TM from there to Chester, and a Holyhead TM down the coast. Catering crew are from Wolves though.

Still a base for TM's and catering staff at Holyhead, and all services down the coast beyond Chester will have a Holyhead TM (the Wrexham service is worked by Liverpool). Holyhead TM's kept 390's on their cards even after the end of the drags down the coast, they work a Euston-Manchester service as far as Crewe on a Sunday, or at least again they did as of last year.

Also, what about the one or two Bangor trains?

Also, i'm sure many of yous will recall the overnight return from Birmingham(?) to Holyhead forming the 0150 back. I think I was surprised to find once that the shop was open, as at the time I think it was a rarity for any nighttime train to be offering catering facilities! (Maybe because I was used to XC)

why do Preston TM's work in between Crewe to Chester seems pointless for any TM to work such a short sector of the route and makes it even more starge it being a Preston TM that works it.

For the Bangor turn my guess is Liverpool/Manchester TM's thought there is a chance it could be Holyhead TM that maybe train passes back to Holyhead after.

No English based tm's do the Bangor jobs. They're done by holyhead tm's and Manchester drivers.
The Preston tm's can and do carry onto Euston they don't usually just do the crewe chester part and nothing else.
Manchester tm's don't sign voyagers at all.
Lime st tm's do the wrexham turns.

Lunchtime Holyhead is a driver (can't remember if it's Liverpool or Manchester) working Crewe-Holyhead and back. The TM on the northbound works all the way from Euston-Holyhead (having arrived there earlier on the first Holyhead-Euston of the day) then finishes at Holyhead, with another Holyhead TM booking on to work back from Holyhead. I've seen both Euston and Holyhead catering crew on that one so I'm not sure what the current arrangement on that side is.
