Ex Virgin stock at Middlesbrough

Whilst going past the Freightliner depot between Middlesbrough & Redcar you can see a lot of ex Virgin stock in the yard.

Could anyone tell me what is there and what the actual name of the yard is because I cannot find any information of it in the storage section of any magazine. I am presuming they are Mk3's.

It's ICI Wilton (or whatever it is called now). They've been there a couple of years now.

Some of this stock has been moved today by 47810, don't know how much. Any photographs would be appreciated if anyone was around.

I had wondered that but I was under the impression that Grand Central had already secured stock. It is a bit close to the September announcement though.

No, this is better quality stored Mk3 stock which was at Wilton for possible transfer to Bosnia.

Wilton (along with MoD Longtown) were the original storage points for the Mark 3s as Long Marston wasn't operational.

As the stock got taken off lease, those vehicles remaining in service (which were selected to remain in service as they were in the best condition at the time) deteriorated both internally and externally and consequently are now some of the worse condition stock (i.e. the ex-VT stock that went to 'one' to cover for the fleet refurbishment). Hence those taken off lease at the beginning of the Pendolino 'revolution' are now some of the better quality stock.

Porterbrook have said that unless a medium-long term lease deal comes along (I believe circa 10 years minimum was quoted), it is not worthwhile them paying for the exams and return to service work needed. Most of the stock at LM is out of miles until overhaul.

Oh and GC do already have stock bought.

GC's vehicles are secured and well on the way to being done,if you can get a copy of the latest railnews there is an interview with Ian Yeowart the MD,quite a good article.I just wonder if he knew about this stock at wilton ?
