I have just been given some information about 153331 and 153351 ex Northern units are apparently at Landore getting ready to enter service with TFW. They are being refurbished as we speak. Anyone got any further information about this at all and when did the go to Wales? No path in the system. Came from Ely sidings.

307, 328, 331 and 352 were the four ex-Northern units bought for active travel and are at Landore for conversion, one or two of these are currently being worked on with the others stabled in the yard, l believe. Maybe someone got mixed up with the info they gave you.

No idea when they arrived but I know refurbishment is well underway and they've been at Landore for some months.

Should be in service from the December timetable, semi permanently coupled to a TFW owned PRM unit.

Is there any news on the routes they'll operate? Maybe as a luggage unit shuttling between to and from tenby or heart of Wales?

Thank you. Sounds good. Similar to the Scot Rail 153s then. Do they plan on having more than four or only having four?

Road transport does exist too remember. Not everything moves by rail.
Indeed but the explanation here is that they were at Landore many months ago now.

Bit of a shame that, luggage space really is dire on the Pembroke dock branch in summer to tenby
To be fair the ScotRail "Highland Explorer" / TfW "active travel" units don't add much in terms of luggage space, because you're not allowed to store luggage in the cycle spaces. It's not even clear if there's going to be an additional space saver toilet in the TfW examples, then again for the Heart of Wales that's probably not really needed, while it definitely is for the Pembroke Dock services.

Both the whole fleet of TfW 153s and 230s will be life expired in just a few short years now, as they've found to their immense cost with the folly on 769s. Mark 4 coaches won't be far behind.

A design has been agreed to enable a retention tank to the original toilets, rather than having to swap it to the other end like on the PRM sets.
This mod is planned for the 4 ex Northern sets plus the 2 153/9s which are remaining, (968 and 972 IIRC)

That at least is a good improvement then. Though not much comfort for the other routes such as Pembroke Dock and Cambrian where many services will only have the one toilet.
