I see a MK4 is yet again being subbed on the 1032 Swansea to Manchester today. At least a 3 car 197 was available to cover, last week it was a pair of 153s!

Does anyone know if the diagram that includes the 1649 Cardiff to Manchester is likely to be a MK4 this week. Im considering trying out first class one day this week on this service if it runs.
They were back up to 4 diagrams on Friday, so definitely possible!

The Cardiff-Cardiff diagram on a Sunday seems extremely liable to swapping for exam requirements at Canton. The Crewe-Crewe diagram is usually quite reliable but isn't running either due to a tail light out on the 67.

It's definitely not planned the first half of the week, HD01, 03 and 07 are all on exam/5 car at Crewe and HD04 also drops out for an exam after tomorrow so 3 diagrams tomorrow, the Cardiff start, Holyhead start and second Crewe start and then just the Second Crewe start and Holyhead start on Tuesday. That means there's no Holyhead finish so the diagram that starts Holyhead wont run on Wednesday.

Thanks. I will keep an eye on what happens towards the end of the week.

Are we expecting a HD01 to come off exam this week?
All being well that is hoped for. Believe 67029 is planned onto HD03 tomorrow for that to have it's exam completed too before attention turns to HD07 having its B exam and 5th car added too.

Yes, can confirm by seeing it myself, that it is now fully formed as a 5 car.
It's astonishing how long it is taking TfW to do the actual insertion of the fifth car (putting aside route clearing/stop mark provision etc). It used to be a simple shunt at Bounds Green (and presumably still is at Neville Hill) to add/remove vehicles on their old patch.

It is at Crewe too, effectively shunt the DVT off, shunt the TO coach in then put the DVT back in place.
Its the doing it alongside the B exams on the rakes that makes it appear even slower, although now the whole thing has dragged on an extremely long time. Testing/Proving was finished way back in August now.

Might sound a silly question but does having the 5th coach change anything with the power required from the loco? Are any further mods needed?

No, there's nothing required on the locos. A fair selection of locos have already worked on the 5 car rake on the testing/proving.
Believe there was a slight tweak made on them to the brake pressure but was done months ago, prior to that the 5 cars had to run 5mph below line speed for the traction but that's been rescinded now.

According to the drivers I've spoken to who were involved in the testing program, the difference is barely noticeable.

Is the 08:30 from Manchester a MK4 or 197? It's been cancelled as far as Shrewsbury in any case.

It’s showing as 153333 from Shrewsbury - Cardiff. I don’t think it will work the rest of the diagram on its own, simply a case of the only unit spare at Shrewsbury to work it.

1W11 was cancelled between Newport and Manchester for some reason... therefore the 0830 was cancelled partially. I imagine the set from 1W11 will pick up the diagram from 1W96.

To be fair, I think it was a track issue in South Wales rather than the train itself. Some consolation there from a rolling stock point of view.

Yeah I did think it was a track fault. I imagine HD06 will pick up 1W96.
It's not currently planned to. Showing as coming off Canton for the 10:52 tomorrow with 67008 rather than 010. 67010 planned onto HD05.
Believe 67010 set off the Wheelflat checks between Cardiff and Newport so being taken off and replaced. It can be used to power HD04 on exam but until had tyre turning it can't go anywhere.

Lots of loco swaps planned so should see-
HD01- 67025 off- 67029 on
HD02- 67022 stays
HD03- No loco with 67015 going on
HD04- 67008 off- 67010 on
HD05- No loco with 67025 going on.
HD06- 67010 off- 67008 on
HD07- No loco.

67021 and 67007 Will be North and South standby locos, both non modified.

Afternoon

RTT has the 1714 off Cardiff to Holyhead as allocated to 197047 and 67010....

That can't be correct can it.....?

Ok thanks sd0733

Appreciate all your help

Dave
The loco and set diagrams are now given different diagram numbers and it does seem to happen where the set gets taken off and the loco doesn't, happened the other day too where a 67+197 was shown but with no coaches. It isn't possible to couple and run in service so anytime that shows can be sure it won't run like that.
