Does anyone know why, on Northern's ex FGW 142s, the main door panels have been repainted yellow but the grab rails left FGW pink? Would've made more sense to leave the doors pink so they matched
This is on 142029 but the others are the same (001, 009,030, 063, 064 & 068)

Cost I'd have thought, as those doors appear not to have seen fresh paint for a significant period of time!

the door panels that are now yellow, were definitely pink when the units were at FGW; it was only when they returned to Northern that they were painted yellow (and it seemed to be done within a day or 2!)
This is a print screen from the FGW 142 tribute vid on YT, the units were only painted Northern blue a couple of months before their return up North, so you wouldn't think the doors would be repainted yellow THAT quickly!

Although it doesn't really matter at all and isn't worth getting worked up about. As someone who has to suffer these daily, colour co-ordination is the last thing that bothers me.

Is it possible to make things easier for maintenance they have some spare sets of doors and just swap them around so that they can do repairs off the train? If the inside rails stay with the train it could explain why they're still pink, but I admit it seems a little far-fetched

I think they've been swapped, not painted.

There's a requirement for at least 30 points of colour contrast between grab rails and what surrounds them. Pink grab rails on pink doors obviously doesn't meet that requirement.

and yet the rest of them have all-yellow doors AND grab rails and AFAIK they're fine
They probably should've done what they did on the 144s - do the doors in the same colour as the surrounding panels (or possibly the dark colour they've redone the ones on 144012) but still leave the grab rails pink

It was the same with the 6 x Wessex 150/2s that transferred to ATW in 2006

Just got off 142068. On the doors I used the C1 sticker had half peeled off, revealing bright pink paint underneath - so the doors definitely have been painted rather than swapped...

I went on 068 the other day and I did notice pink paint showing underneath, on both the inside & outside of the doors
They really would've looked better if they'd left the doors pink on the inside!

exactly - the colour of the hand rails is the least troubling thing about a pacer!
