Even fewer trams running in Manchester

Overhead line works mean Metrolink trams will not run on the Eccles and Altrincham lines in August. Services will be replaced by buses, with Eccles line services calling all stations (except Pomona) to Piccadilly, and Altrincham services calling all stops to Piccadilly then back to Piccadilly Gardens and then non-stop to Victoria. Trams to Bury will still run from Victoria.

Special fares will be available from the bus driver starting at £1.20 rising to a daily fare of £3.50. Season tickets are valid as normal. Buses will run every 10 minutes until 7pm mon-sat and every 15 minutes at other times.

Thanks for that, this is really annoying, I was hoping to take my summer holidays in Manchester this year and was putting it off because of the City Centre tram closure. Might have to wait until Sept!

I wish they'd tell us how long the City Centre is closed for!

Yep heard that about the two routes but keep hearing that the city works may be finished early.

The city centre work is progressing well, but I've noticed they're only doing one side! The line between Shudehill and St. Peter's Square has only been replaced on the Altringham/Eccles-bound line; the Victoria/Bury-bound line has not yet been removed, never mind replaced.

This has puzzled me for weeks, because to take up on Altringham/Eccles-bound line about a month ago, they parked their diggers and dumpers on the Victoria/Bury-bound line. Now, if they do the opposite and swap sides, how will they avoid ruining the nice new paving stones and floor tiles they've surfaced the road with?

The trams on Altrincham and Eccles services wouldn't receive any maintenance for months and months on end if both lines were ripped up at once. I'm sure they will manage it without damaging the new paving.
