What a sorry state the place is in. I didn't get much of the fuss about the need for rebuilding it, I previously used to pass through between 5 and 10 times a year, but now I have to pass through most days, I've noticed what an absolute state the place is in.
Since the hot weather has arrived, the train shed absolutely stinks. I feel sorry for anyone that has to work around the area near platform 1-3 and where Camden Food co. is because the smell blows into the concourse there and it is foul to walk through to catch a train, let alone hang around for any period of time.
All of the platforms are filthy, they are in desperate need of pressure washing at the very least. There's spillage from the bins on the platforms that just doesn't get cleaned up and is left to get caked onto the surface and contributes to the stench. The whole trainshed smells like the rear of a bin lorry - its shocking!
Then theres the canopies, where the paint is flaking off the metal, and the knackered ceiling panels under the departure boards and the ramps to the platforms.
Other than the outlets changing, a bit of work to the first class lounge and the display screens changing, has the place seen any maintenance work whatsoever since the 60s?
I seem to remember them doing a bit of work to the Virgin ticket hall a few years back, but obviously not a lot was done at all, to the extent that there's still 'Asbestos Hazard' warning stickers on panels on the wall.
It's an awful terminal and something needs to be done to bring it up to standard, especially considering the number of passengers that use it.
