a few more observations from my trip,

We stopped at Worcestershire Parkway en route, my first time there, couldn't help but notice how it was on a quite severe slant as we waited at the station. Is that usual?
The idea of going via Birmingham was to get a Pendolino to London. Our service used a Super Voyager!!!
VFM on TFL is amazing. I spent £9.80 on three train trips.
And out 1928 service home from Paddington not only didn't stop at Reading. We always stop at Reading. Why is this?
Also, it continued to Worcester Shrub Hill. Is this because of the bridge closure at Oxford?

Presumably to keep clear of the 1930 and 1932 immediately behind, and to spread the loading

Is there any chance of getting on a tour without booking in advance?

I would think so, there were three people on the 1 o'clock slot that we booked (they're self guided every 15 minutes), they did say that it got very busy during school holidays though. Can't see them turning down anyone's money.

What does "self guided" mean?

It means there isn't a guide
Often with a handheld/headset audio guide, sometimes following the arrows and reading the "interpretative" boards which might even be "interactive" (OK I've done an HLF bid application...)

Surprises me that they allow that in a football stadium as people could wander off into areas they should not be in.

No danger of that, there were guides at every point, didn't really pay attention to the handset though.

Don't worry even if they got into the trophy room there isn't anything in there to steal

I would imagine most of the non public areas would be behind closed/locked doors.

I think that makes you the new manager. Congratulations and good luck (you'll need it).

The stadium is certainly impressive inside and out, and having been designed with the Wembley model in mind (making it a venue that be in use all the time for other events, hospitality, events, parties etc) it is always pretty busy. It does sometimes feel like that means football isn't given the attention it needs and management has become a little complacent.

Yes, I was there days after Bournemouth had won 2-3 there. It feels as though no-one has a right to come there and dare to win.
