Some foreign friends are planning to travel from Euston to Manchester on Sunday morning 16th June.
I am proud of our railways but I am surprised to see that the 0820 departure is shown as taking 2 hours 40 minutes to complete the journey.
Why so long? Is it routing via Birmingham? Are they using the rarely seen Virgin Pacers ?

There is no Euston-Manchester via Birmingham service BUT have you checked for any engineering works?

A quick look on google shows the journey at this moment in time should take 2 hours 5 minutes.

2h40m was the standard London-Manchester weekday timing before 125mph tilt came in.
Sunday mornings are always slower, with engineering work along the route, particularly on the fast lines.
