Euston to Imperial Wharf

I'm a bit of a donut, as you may have noticed. A few days ago I booked a room in a hotel near Imperial Wharf station in London for a one night stay, stupidly thinking that it was on the District Line. I now realise my folly.

Having to take a more convoluted route to and from the centre doesn't bother me in the slightest, actually. But I will be arriving into Euston and departing from King's Cross with luggage, which poses a slight challenge as to how to get to and from the hotel. Various journey planners give various routes for these journeys (Northern to Tottenham Court Road, Central to Shepherd's Bush, WLL; or Vic to Victoria, District to West Brompton, WLL; or Vic to Victoria, Southern to Clapham Junction, WLL; or Northern to Victoria, SWT to Clapham Jn, WLL, or even Euston - Willesden - Imperial Wharf...) that don't seem to vary that much in terms of journey time.

So I'd be grateful if someone with local knowledge could suggest the optimal route between Euston/King's Cross and Imperial Wharf, with luggage.

I would probably do Euston - Willesden - Imperial Wharf!

Hammersmith & City / Circle to Edgeware Road, cross platform to District Line to West Brompton then up and over to Overground?

I'd definitely steer clear of interchanging between the Central Line and the Overground at Shepherd's Bush: it's not a particularly friendly interchange, even without luggage, and the Overground station is poorly designed, cramped and often overcrowded...

KXSP/Euston Square - Edgware Road - West Brompton - Imperial Wharf is probably the most practical route overall I'd have thought. One flight of steps to go up on the way out (West Brompton); on the way back I think there are lift options everywhere you'd need to go upwards.

Afraid not, and even if it did I've already have bought an Advance ticket to Euston. But it is a nice potential connection onto the SN service (the North Wales trains do stop at Milton Keynes after the morning peak, which I'll keep in mind for the future).

Hadn't actually thought about the Edgware Road route, which does seem quite straightforward from what I remember (it hadn't come up in the journey planners, perhaps because it's Euston Square). I'll probably give a few of the options a go (just out of general interest and variety), but it's good to have an idea what would be the best with luggage and whatnot.

Not sure about the fare implications, but Vauxhall-Clapham Jn-Imp Wharf?
Using the Windsor Lines from Vauxhall would save a long walk at the Junction.

Bump.

Just been to London, and used four different ways of getting from my hotel to the city.

1) Euston Square-Edgware Rd-West Brompton-Imperial Wharf: nice cross-platform interchange at Edgware Road, but not great at West Brompton with luggage.
2) Imperial Wharf - Clapham Jn - Waterloo: I didn't have luggage for this bit (and the transfer at Clapham would have been a pain with luggage), but it wasn't too bad.
3) Holborn - Shepherd's Bush - Imperial Wharf: Changing at Shepherd's Bush wasn't great and would have been awful with luggage (again, I didn't have any at this time).
4) Imperial Wharf - West Brompton - Earls Court - King's Cross via Piccadilly line (in the apparent absence of any District Line trains going via Paddington) - not easy interchanges, again.

Interestingly, this morning (laden with luggage) I asked my hotel receptionist and two TfL workers for their suggestions to get to King's Cross. The receptionist offered to phone me a taxi before suggesting I change from the Overground at Latimer Road (I decided not to follow this advice for obvious reasons). The TfL staff both got their smartphones out, and were surprised to see the myriad of options available. So I didn't get any local knowledge.

So the answer seems to be that there's on easy way between the two stations, but plenty of interesting routes. In future, if I use the hotel again, I'll try and connect to the Southern service at Milton Keynes though (if my train stops) - it would work out pretty perfectly.

A detail for the future: there are lifts to all platforms from the footbridge at the country end of the station (though it's a long walk from one side to another).

The main problem with Southern at Milton Keynes is that the services are frequently cancelled

in fairness they are fine as long as:

• southern aren't striking
• nothing has gone udders up on the WCML south
• staff & units don't fail

It is a long journey from MK to points south of Watford via Southern!
