Euston to Hersham Return.

Please could I ask the advice of this forum. On Tuesday I am travelling from Euston to Hersham (for the Princess Alice Hospice) and return. I will be travelling out at 12.15 pm and return after 4pm. I will be break my return journey at Farringdon. My current plan is to use the Victoria line and national rail changing at Vauxhall in both directions. On the return journey I shall also use the Circle Line. I don't mind walking up to two miles but would rather not use buses. I use the bus at home on a weekly sometimes daily basis but am bus nervous in strange towns.

My question is about the cheapest and easiest way to pay for this journey. My ideas are:

London U1 to Hersham Anytime Day Return £19.80. Plus Farringdon to Euston using Contactless. Seems expensive.

Contactless to Surbiton and return . Surbition to Hersham Off Peak Day Return £4. Plus Farringdon to Euston using Contactless. £11.70 daily cap. Cheaper but would I have to get off the train at Surbiton in each direction to tap in and out?

Paper travel card Day Off Peak Zone 1 to 6 £12. Surbition to Hersham Off Peak Day Return £4. I presume I would not have to get off the train at Surbiton to tap in and out. Can I buy a Day travel card at Birmingham New Street?

Any other ideas?

The last one might be the easiest, and if you ask for the ticket from Boundary Zone 6 instead of Surbiton the train does not need to stop at Surbiton (although I believe most/all do, just in case!)

Birmingham New Street should be able to sell the Travelcard, just ask for:

Euston - London Zones 1-6 Off-Peak Travelcard
Boundary Zone 6 - Hersham Off-Peak Day Return

With Contactless/Oyster yes you would have to get off at Surbiton to touch out.

Although I note that you do not like buses it is a fair walk from Hersham station; the 458 bus will pass Princess Alice and goes near to Esher station, from outside Walton station (and not quite so near to Hersham) every half hour - search for times on Abellio Surrey. This may save a walk in at least one direction.
