Euston to Gatwick?

I'm off on a short break next month and I need to be at Gatwick for around 16:00 latest

I'm coming from the Midlands and have already snapped up a Virgin advance from Birmingham New Street to London Euston for £8.50 as it was too cheap to turn down. It's the 12:50 from New Street and arrives at Euston for 14:14

This gives me just under 2 hours to get to Gatwick which I feel should be enough. I don't know London that well but I've read online that it is reccomended to walk to St Pancras and get a Thameslink train from there?

Is this the best option? I don't really want to be lugging my suitcase on the tube if I can help it

Absolutely. Just walk ten minutes to St Pancras International, down to the Thameslink platform (there are lifts as well as escalators), onto the train, off at Gatwick. Avoids the melée of Euston Underground and the Victoria Line.

Thanks. Is the thameslink train the same price regardless or is it better to book in advance?

And would you say Gatwick is the easiest London airport to get to from Euston? I could have flew from Heathrow but i worked out it meant spendng almost an hour on the Tube and I didn't fancy that.

Thameslink is the same price. In fact you can use contactless which almost always works out cheaper than the cash fare.

From Euston, Luton and Gatwick are pretty much equally easy to get to, seeing as there are direct trains to both. In the future of course this may change a little, seeing as HS2 will stop at Old Oak Common, whenceforth there'll be direct trains to Heathrow and (more or less) City Airports.

It's easiest to turn left on leaving the Euston building - you should see a sign for the walking route. That avoids going to the main road and then back to the Thameslink platforms.

Be aware that there is a short flight of steps down into Eversholt St, though a step-free route is signposted which looks only to add 100m.

You walk straight out of Gatwick airport station into the airport. You walk straight out of Luton Airport Parkway station into a forecourt to catch a bus to the airport

True, but timewise it is similar as Luton is still slightly closer and quicker to get to from St Pancras, with journey times end-to-end of 40 mins vs 44 mins.

It would be helpful to know more details of when the OP is travelling from St Pancras to Gatwick and when they're returning, and if they have any railcards.

A paper Anytime Return from STP to GTW is £21.10

Using contactless it is £15.10 peak and £8.30 off peak (evening rush hour is peak).

Also if heading to gatwick from st pancras, board a brighton train not a gatwick terminator or a horsham train. The latter two are basically all stations, where as the brightons are east croydon then gatwick.

Travelling ASAP after arrival into Euston (14:14). No railcards and I don't need a return as will be getting picked up from Gatwick when I fly back.
