Euston to Eurostar Times

Is there a problem with Loco2 and connection times? I am travelling from Worcester to Barcelona. I have done this before using the Train Hotel which I very much enjoyed. This time Loco2 suggests I arrive at Euston at 8.31 and departs St Pancras International at 9.17. Forty six minutes to get off the Virgin train, dash down Euston Road, check in for Eurostar, get through security and board the Train. I believe 38 mins is the official connection time plus thirty (or ten) minutes check in for Eurostar. Forty six minutes seems very tight bearing in mind it can take a while to get off a Pendalino (from standard in a eleven car) and get to the concourse. If the Virgin train was a bit late you would have real problems.

Do you think that CIV would cover such a situation where you have not allowed the official connection times?

PS. I should say Loco2 give a warning saying only attempt this if you are confident crossing London. Confident and a professional runner with good elbows (think of all the apologising) who can telepathically set all Pedestrian crossing to green I would say.

To be honest if you know where you are going it should only take a 15 min walk max and thats even if you use the Euston road Ive never really taken much longer between the two.

I think you should query this with loco2. They are IME quick to respond to queries.

They are not advertising CIV fares, so you would have no protection, and I agree you only have just enough time to make checkin.

As theres no safe way of doing the trip in one day, either break the journey overnight somewhere, or take the scenic route and use the Intercites de nuit to Latour de Carol.

Thank you. Forty six minutes is just not enough for me to feel comfortable. It is advertised with CIV protection but. The other option is the 7.27 arrival at Paddington from Worcester. Should be easy to make the 9.17 from St Pancras. A very early start from Worcester though. I had not considered the Intecities de Nuit. I will have a look at that. I had not seen the walking route. I always just dash down Euston Road.

I think you've made the right decision, despite the early start. If the connection between the UK service and Eurostar is not protected, then there's no way I'd want to try a 46 minute connection like this out!

It wouldn't take too long to actual walk between Euston and St Pancras, but if your incoming train was late you wouldn't have any slack at all in that itinerary. It wouldn't take much delay at all for you to miss your booked Eurostar.

Thank you. I would be too worried all the way to London. Even if I made the connection it would be too stressful. Particularly knowing I had then got a TGV to catch.

One option I am thinking of is using cheap advances late the night before to get to Milton Keynes say. Stay in a hotel near the station there and then use a CIV ticket to Euston the following morning. Means I get a bit longer in bed.

When I checked the connection before responding it could only give me point to point fares, which isn't the usual loco2 display. Still think it needs taking up with the site team.

Very quick reply from Loco2. Apologising if I don't think 46 minutes is long enough. Basically they display the data returned from the operator. Apparently you can add a longer connection time using the Via Station facility.

Indeed it is. I've been recommending it to people for at least 6 years! it's more pleasant now the building works and redevelopment work appears to be complete.

Note that the train may not necessarily say Melun; certain trains will say 'Corebil-Essonnes' or even 'Malesherbes'

It's simple enough, and as long as you're heading Southbound from Gare du Nord, you'll be doing fine

It should be plenty of time, euston rd is busy but not that bad.

However, if its going to make the journey stressful for you then I'd definitely opt for longer connection if it makes you more relaxed. Sure you may need to start a bit earlier, but you're not doing it every day.
