4 of us are looking into doing this in the new year some time. 4 16-25 railcards and a large dog ideally! How cheap can it be done? I notice Serco have binned the Bargain berths which is a shame. Extremely flexible on dates and planning to do 2-3 nights in Scotland. Ideally we want the beds and not the seated accommodation. Hoping someone can work their magic! Cheers!

You know there will be a nice charge for taking your dog too? No idea how much that will be though.

I think it's £94 for a single journey, to cover the cost of deep cleaning the berth.

Yes £94 each way for bringing a pet in order to get the berth deep cleaned.

Wow that's pretty pricey though can understand why as its pretty much a deterrent to do so

I wonder if they'd be willing to allow the pet to travel in a suitable cage in the appropriate brake van for a slightly less substantial fee?

So far I've found £60 odd each each way. I did see that, would he be able to travel for free with us in seated accommodation as it the case on normal services? If not for £94 each way he's going to be staying at home! I was wondering would he be allowed in the brake van/ guards van once everyone goes to their berths- I imagine if you turned up for your booked train with a dog it wouldn't leave them much choice than taking him that way?

Also been asked to enquire about smoking/ dog wee breaks- I seem to remember a long stoppage at Preston?

Edit: just read through the kindly provided link. It seems the dog would have to spend his whole journey in the berth whilst accompanied. Looking like he'll be missing out!

I saw exactly this scenario happen recently: a lady brought her dog with her intending to travel on the seated sleeper - she wasn't much pleased to be told that it wasn't allowed. I didn't find out what the eventual resolution was but at one point she was in conversation with about four different members of staff and there was quite a bit of head shaking going on.

I can totally understand why they do it- but in the seated bit I would've thought it would be like normal day services- bring a well behaved dog on by all means. No skin off of our noses but the dog might be disappointed he misses out on a good old run through the highlands!

OK I was trying to find a link to no avail. Anyway AFAIAA the "Dog Berth Cleaning Fee" is being reduced to £25 and additionally dogs will be allowed in the seated coach on the daytime sections only - i.e. EDB to FTW & v.v and KIN to INV northbound - subject to the usual caveats.
