hope to be going to london on the red dot day from sheffield and i thinking on walking to euston station what is the cheapest way to get on to the platforms to photo some trains

Only platforms 8-11 are barriered, the intercity ones have manual checks before trains are due to depart so those shouldn't be a problem, just sign in as normal. The LM/LO platforms shouldn't be a problem either just as long as you sign in or even just ask the gateline staff, most have common sense. You may also need a platform ticket, worth asking for one anyway to be on the safe side.

I frequent euston station so the best way is this:

1. enter via your favourite entrance
2. go to the network rail reception
3. greet them and sign in
4. choose a platform that is not gated
5. walk down the platform to the end, which is outside (the light is good there, plus do not pass the no passengers sign).

all this can be done for free!

At Euston look for the trade reception which is the Network Rail office. The station reception is Virgin operated.

The best platform to go on is 14 and 15 mind it is about 16 coaches long because its the platform the sleeper trains depart from at night. This platform is one i think most enthusiasts would stand on although 3 and 4 also gives you the chance for good shots. with no subway to change platforms you will be doing a lot of walking.

Last time i signed in at a station (St.Pancras), they said we had to basically 'Book in adavance', but let us off and we met the manager, signed the sheet and went on the platforms so is it a case at Eusten to just walk into the office, say hello, sign the sheet, and on your way?

It is always best to say its non-commercial otherwise they might assume you are doing it for commercial use.
