Hello! Avanti are trying to drive me insane, and I'd appreciate your collective wisdom.

My wife and I would like to travel from Euston to Llandudno Junction next weekend (11/12 Jan). I originally tried to book tickets on Avanti's website, going out on Friday 10th and returning on Sunday 12th. It returned the following error message:

"There are no more seats available to reserve for your chosen ticket on the outward/return service. The reservation is mandatory. You can change your service or ticket selection and try again."

Same message for various times on those days. So I went to the National Rail website and attempted to buy tickets there, and it informed me that Avanti staff are striking every Sunday for the next three hundred thousand years, which I assumed explained the problem. I adjusted the dates (going out on the 10th and returning on the 11th). This seemed to be working, until the website forcibly redirected me to the Avanti site to complete the purchase. The Avanti journey planner decided that it isn't running trains between Llandudno Junction and Euston on the 11th and changed my return date to the 12th, at which point I received the above error message again.

Does anyone know what's going on? Does this route still exist? I suppose it's possible that every seat is booked, but I've done this route many times before without booking more than a day or two in advance and am very confused.

Have you tried booking it via the forums booking site to avoid the Avanti website?
I did try that, but gave up when the spinning status indicator thing didn't do anything for a few minutes. Anyway, it turns out that my wife is more resourceful than I am and has somehow managed to purchase tickets, though I'm still intrigued by the error message that I quoted.

It was the 11:00 from Euston to LJ, and 11:27 going back the other way. My wife has now successfully booked 13:00 on the way out and 11:27 return.
Couldn't see an 1100 from Euston direct to Llandudno Junction on Friday 10JAN2025. Might need a change onto TfW at Chester. Similarly the 1300 from Euston.

As far as I can see, Avanti hasn't published its timetable for Jan 12 or any strike Sunday.
The Avanti Chester/North Wales service is usually one of the first to be cancelled or truncated when there is any disruption on the WCML.
There will still be some kind of Avanti service to Crewe, and LNR and TfW should be unaffected.

Avanti suspended sales when strikes were announced, possibly the case that they haven’t reinstated them or they now know that the trains won’t run
