I see they have new tiles cut out already, lol I guess in the planning department saying 'It doesn't matter because none of them match in the station'

The station really needs two sets of loos, on opposite sides of the concourse. Then at quiet times, one set could be taken out of use for a proper freshen up, repairs, etc.

This would confuse matters, what they need is a cleaning operative checking on them every hour or whatever

The ladies needs to be much larger. As a man it’s embarrassing being able to walk past a queue of women, go to the toilet and exit passing the same women in the queue.

The toilets also need a proper refurbishment. They were tarted up last year but this only extended to new cubicle doors and worktops. The actual fittings, taps etc were not changed.

The main ladies at STP (in the modern area) are also way too small. No excuse really, for a money no object build.

Within five years I'd hope they might have also updated and provided more ladies loos!!

There is almost always a queue for the ladies and it sometimes backs up so far as to make entrance/exit from the end platforms difficult.

While the staff do their best to keep the ladies toilets clean they are looking really tacky and can't give a very good first impression of London to foreign tourists who have arrived by train having flown into somewhere like Manchester or Birmingham.

Didn't they get refurbished with the Mens toilets last year? The men's is same layout but much cleaner and the horrid smell has gone (for now)

Even the mens I find quite small though for a station the size of Euston.

Last time I was in there - about a month ago - some of the wash hand basins were out of action.

I think that, yes, the cubicle decor was updated some time in the last year or so. But not the wash hand basin area.

But the underlying problem is there just aren't enough of them for the amount of passengers at times.

And yet very rarely is there a queue for the men's. The occupancy screen is useful for the cubicles is handy.

The ladies is clearly the opposite, but I guess there's often a big difference in the time taken so the men's has a constant flow in and out.

Capacity of the entire station is not up to scratch, so I don't expect the toilets to be either.

Not quite full circle - the complaints were about the main screen being used entirely for adverts, with departures being relegated solely to the now-removed smaller freestanding screens.

Since train running information was moved back to the main screen, its outer ends have been blank, so imo it makes sense to use those areas to recoup some revenue (as I commented in post 84).

It's stated as being a two week trial, per the Network Rail press release:

Alongside a firm commitment to keep customer information on Euston’s large screen, a two-week trial* to test advertising content on the screen’s outer sections will also begin on Monday (2 March). The trial has been developed using feedback from customers and stakeholders, following lessons learned when the full-width screen was first introduced in 2024.

In response to that feedback, Network Rail has retained the central section of the screen for departure and customer information only. This ensures that train information remains clear, prominent, and easy to read at all times. Any future revenue generated from advertising - should it be adopted - will be reinvested into improvements benefitting passengers.

*The upcoming trial of advertisements focuses solely on the unused outer panels of Euston station’s large screen and will take into consideration the following:

• Content that does not cause distraction and adheres to guidance on neurodiversity.
• Brightness levels to maintain a comfortable concourse environment.

Network Rail will gather feedback throughout the trial and will only make longer-term decisions once customers and station teams have had the opportunity to share their views.

It's full circle in some respects as before the big screen was put in there were departure screens in the middle, and adverts on the side. As shown in this photo from 2000.

Space to circulate is all very well, but is there anything to be said for bringing back the massive octagonal sock, stationery and skincare shops across the middle of the concourse, @Bletchleyite?

I don't really have an issue with that, as things stand there is a lot of unused space on the board, we may as well have it generating a few £ in ad revenue, it may even pay for an extra cleaner for the toilets!

Footfall was lower but even so they were in the way. But remember that back then there wasn't the mezzanine so there was a bit more space further back too.

Yep. I see no issue with this, it's just putting it back the way it was with a new screen, which is what they should have done to start with.

It's all working fine again now.

It's interesting that even in 1980, what Michael Palin describes as "the new streamlined Euston", not only is the concourse completely clear, but the departure board is relatively small, so small that two full size billboards can be posted side to side, on both sides!

"Euston always reminds me of a giant bath. Lots of smooth slippery marble and glass surfaces so that people can be sloshed quickly and efficiently around". The concourse in the middle of the day on a 1980 weekday only has a few people milling around it.

Taken them a few attempts but they have just about managed to recreate that model of efficiency, despite four times the passenger numbers. At least we have seats now!

Yes, much, much lower.
