In the Basque Country at the moment visiting San Sebastian/Donostia. Making use of the local Basque government trains and it's been an excellent service. There's obviously a lot of money been spent to good effect. We've been based near Usurbil station with trains in each direction every 30 minutes so a train every 15 mins. Access is across the tracks, no footbridges and lifts, so vast amounts of cash saved with a consequent slightly higher risk to safety. Well worth it in my opinion.

Indeed a nice system, although the website could be improved. The journey planner doesn't really work properly most of the time and fares need to be derived from a pdf. The best thing is the half-hourly cross-border service to Hendaye, which was very popular this summer.

Also very nice route to Bilbao from Donostia/San Sebastián although it does take ages

I was in Bilbao in April for a football match and spent a very pleasant day catching the Euskotren out to Bermeo - a Sunday so only(!) an hourly service. Well worth the ride for a pleasant lunch at a harbourside bar and drop back a train or two on the return for a look round Gernika. Super scenery, very alpine in places. I would recommend it if you're in the area.
