Mod Note: Posts #1 - #7 originally in this thread.

Well there was Telex With Eurovision in 1980, although they were trolling really and became annoyed when they didn't come last. The original version of the song, (n)Eurovision cements that.

and an almost German entry for 2003 was Scooter - Jigga Jigga, but Germany decided that choosing an entry from a band that was already successful was a stupid idea

If we are playing this game, and as a connysewer of Eurovision madness I hope we are, then I offer the genius that is Peter Nalitch
My wife hates this, but I think it is oddly charming. Nauseating lyrics, a spoken section, some time spent wandering about looking for the key they are meant to be in....and yet the deluded sincerity gets me every time.

Typing 'UK Eurovision songs' is less characters and surely gets the same results?
!!!
We WERE quite good at it when
(a) we took it seriously
(b) we entered decent songs - something lacking since we entered the 2000's
(c) Europe loved us.
But nowadays I ignore the thing, mainly due to the ridiculous voting system where they spend an hour taking each country's votes, and then the next five minutes overturning them. So what's the point?
Anyhow, Dana's won me a few qudos points when I picked her as a winner in 1970 and him in 1998.

hahaha!
did we ever take it seriously?
the only way we could have not been so ambivalent towards it is to have steps or s club rejects singing a rendition of "my lovely horse"

Katrina and the Waves? That's taking it pretty seriously!! But the bands the UK has - and never entered - just shows how pathetic our attitude has been. Anything from Simple Minds to the Cocteau Twins, even Boy George in his day....mind you they'd have to agree to compete first!

Tell you what, when Scotland becomes indie they will walk away with it.

Not strictly a contestants performance. But Madonna's performance of Like A Prayer / Future last year was pretty tragic...
