Eurostar viewing location

Evening, where would you recommend close to London as somewhere I can read off Eurostar / Javelin numbers and preferably also see freight / c2c / SE units (less need to be close enough to read as I can use RTT).

I thought Barking was perfect until I realised HS1 was underground there

Stratford International should do for the Eurostar and 395s?

For freight you can then move across to the normal Stratford - usually two or three freights in each hour there.

Thanks, I was hoping more for somewhere to see all at the same time. Rainham or Dagenham possibly but I've never been and don't want to waste a trip if you can't see both lines there

Rainham and Dagenham offer opportunities to see both freights, Eurostars, and 395's but the later two move fast and being quite close it is almost impossible to get the numbers..

The RSPB reserve at Rainham Marshes is adjacent to the line but yes, you will likely need binoculars to stand any chance of getting the numbers... The 374s will be easier as they have larger digits, but at speed ( the linespeed is 140 mph at that location ), yes, binoculars will be a must.

Thanks both, I went to Dagenham Docks and eventually ended up sat at the London end of the eastbound platform. Could read both the Javelins and Eurostars

Did this require binoculars in the end? Isn't HS1 higher up than the c2c platforms?

Nope, could read them with my eyes. I started on the London-bound platform but it's too close; the eastbound platform was fine.

They're at the same track level at this point, I think HS1 has only just come out of the tunnel so hasn't yet got higher
