Eurostar ticket amendments

The cheapest Eurostar tickets seem to be £49 each way when booking 330 days in advance.

I want to return a week after I arrive, hence I would risk missing out on the cheap £49 tickets for the outbound portion as they may have been bought by others.

Is it possible to just buy a return day ticket the day the outbound portion goes on sale, then amend (for free) the return portion one week later?

I know it seems a bit over the top, but I’m travelling at what I expect to be a time where there will be very high demand!

As long as Eurostar continues their policy of allowing fee-free changes up to 7 days before travel, that would work. If the tickets you end up choosing are more expensive, you'll have to pay the difference, if they are cheaper they will not refund the difference, so that is something to consider. Though it shouldn't matter if you are expecting to pay £49 for both cases.

Depending on your route though, I can see tickets cheaper than £49 in the low fare calendar, so you may wish to check that first

I agree. I commute weekly between London and Paris on Eurostar. I always book my ‘best guess’ trains months in advance for a very cheap fare. Then I need to adjust a few as my schedule changes, but overall I ‘win’ significantly.

The Eurostar policy of allowing changes with only the fare difference to pay is very helpful for this.

Just watch out that some trains do get sold out altogether, so if trying to adjust only a couple of days before, you can get stuck.

Then definitely book early, I would think!
