Can anyone please tell me why the train numbers on eurostar tickets start 90xx or 91xx. I thought the numbers began 3xxx or 4xxx using the last digit of 373 or 374.

The 90/91 numbers are the headcodes/train ID number. The 3/4xxx numbers are the unit numbers, using the last three numbers of the full unit number.

Thanks for that. So did the trains originally have the unit numbers painted on them and now they have the headcode numbers painted on?

no. The units still have the same numbers. The headcode is the service number- the same service number each day can/will use a different train.
