Europhoenix 37601 now 37501

Seen mentions in various media of 37601 being renumbered to 37501 during a repaint at Loughborough works.
Would this have the same modifications as 37508 which was 37606 before it's wpiac lights were removed ?

I understand the reason why 37508 was retro liveried and de-wipac d, but is there a "crank element" involved in the ownership of 37601/37501 ?

I’m still not entirely sure myself if 508 and 501 have had all of the EPS mods ’undone’. Apart from reverting the electrical modifications, this would also include removing the ex-Class 50 bogies and restoring the 80mph ’HGR’ bogies from the 1980s refurbishment of Class 37s at Crewe.

It maybe related to whatever livery it emerges in, presumably a livery the loco wore as 37501. No idea if their is a crank element but bear in mind it is the same owner as 37901 which has been repainted into Railfreight Metals.

The main reason 37501 was renumbered to 37601 (along with 37602 to 37612) was the replacement of the 80mph geared cp7 bogies fitted to the refurbished class 37s with 100mph rated class 37/0 bogies along with the fitment of through ETH/jumped cables to work with the Nightstar stock and generator vans. 37601 never received WIPAC lights/cab Mods as it was one of 3 retained by EuroTunnel when the other 9 were sold to DRS.

When DRS acquired it they never modified it so to convert it back to a 37/5 is a simple task of changing the 100mph Bogies with a set of 80mph CP7s and removing the cables, however the renumber maybe just a system/painted number change.

Yes 37508 is in TOPS pool LRLO, which also contains 37418

37501 is expected to be painted into BR British Steel Light Blue livery and will be released from Loughborough on Wednesday(5th march). 0R59 10:10 Loughborough brush - Leicester L.I.P.

Such a cracking paint job on 501. I wonder if, at some point, it'll get the dark blue lower band too?

That depends upon whether the organisers will be "thrilled to announce".

It was announced on the 11th March that a ROG cl37 is attending and 37501 is expected to be said 37, subject to operational requirements.
