Reading through a 1963 "Classification and marshalling of freight trains" document (as one does) I found an abbreviation I've never come across before - "EUB" Trains. There were six of them, running as Class 6 to Annesley but Class 8 forward. There was a further train Woodford to Sutton-in-Ashfield, Class 6 to Annesley and Class 7 forward, which detached mineral emtpties at Summit Colliery.
Does anyone know what "EUB" means in this context?
My first thought was that they could be block loads of iron ore (there were ore quarries in the Woodford area) but six trains a day seems a lot, and why the Summit Colly/ Sutton train?
My second thought was block loads of steel-carrying wagons (empty) being returned to Scunthorpe for loading - Empty Unbraked Bolsters ? Empty Urgent Bolsters?
Any ideas fellow railway folk?
