EU Train Drivers License

Been in the grade 10 years this year. Have to apply for a Eu license apparently. All par for the course but on talking to a safety & standards boss the other day he suggested that if you have an Eu license you can drive for another company on your days off if you want & suggested a few people do this with COLAS & ROG (I think) so I wondered if anyone knew of this or if he was talking nonsense? I suspect the latter!

If you stay within the "hidden" rules then it doesn't really matter who you drive for. But I can see there being conflicts of interest as well as potential breach of contracts unless you get managers approval.

Certainly not unheard of
Likewise there are a few drivers who have taken early retirement/VS, gone to other safety critical railway jobs but still drive on their days off
However Lrd is right, it needs to be cleared with management and it's the individual's responsibility to stay within Hidden

You can do that now without the EU licence if your manager allows. All competence is held on the certificate counterpart and the actual "licence" is not a free pass to drive whatever you want wherever you want.

You've been able to 'moonlight' without it having to be an EU license. I would advise against doing so though, as any incident you have with another company might see you stood down without pay with your main company.
