Looks like Uncle Theresa and Aunty Jeremy will be having a face-to-beard debate about Brexit; but they can't sort out which channel/time.

I can imagine this will be an embarrassment if it happens. Two poor leaders whose communication skills are both atrocious.

And I bet by the end of it we'll still be no further forward on where both actually stand on the topic.

So that'll be one hour of both of them coming out with absolutely nothing, while the rest of us still wonder if our holidays will go ahead next summer or will sterling have crashed below Haseem Hameed's latest batting average (ie that bad)?

Think you allude to the cost of travel within the UK if the pound tanks and imports of fuel (to name one) increases significantly; so holidaying within the UK doesn't solve everything!

West actually! I already see the north-east once or twice a month, work permitting.

What I was alluding to that no matter what prophecies of doom may, or probably won't, come to pass, I will be having my holidays come whatever may, so no worries in this household.

Just noticed the headline on the news - decrease in the number of EU immigrants living in the UK, but an increase in the number form elsewhere (and that figure appears to be continuing to increase). Hmmm, if anyone thought that leaving the EU would free up road space, room in surgeries, schools etc might not be over pleased with that.

Some use curtailing OUR freedom of movement to the EU in order to stop movement here when it appears that EU's are disappearing every day - and in key areas (hospitals/farms/hospitality/food) worryingly so?

That's still a gamble though, as the current exchange rate has been hammered by Brexit uncertainty. By the time he goes on holiday, there might have been a remain vote in a second referendum which would probably cause sterling to recover.

Given that the effect of Brexit on the Irish (or Irish Sea) Border (and the lives of people thereto) and the stability of Northern Ireland is "not his problem", I suspect so.

I can't help but smile wryly that the one part of this whole thread where *everyone* seems to be in agreement is that both leaders are a farce and this debate will be cringeworthy. A sad verdict on the state of our political parties at the present time.

They either have to get an agreement that parliament agrees on (Lords and commons) or a new law needs passing to repeal the European Community (Withdrawal) Act 2018. Or we just leave 29 March 2019 and revert to WTO.

Even if there were validity in the argument that May and Corbyn represent the overwhelming majority of MPs, the fact that May is now a Brexiteer by choice and Corbyn always has been one out of Socialist conviction means that there can be no genuine argument/debate. It desperately needs someone like Nicola Sturgeon to put the pro-EU cause to provide some sort of balance. Shame on the BBC (as so often) for coming up with this dreadful format.

Where’s the nearest ocean to squeeze a drop into it?

Seriously, surely people can see a difference between 3,000 skilled doctors and hundreds of thousands of unskilled EU citizens?

At least no one can say about Sturgeon that her position isn’t broadcast widely - although of course even hers is nuanced in that we all know her overwhelming objective is independence come fair or foul.

You should be seeing the benefits of lower immigration....if from elsewhere was also down. As it is there appears to be shortages of unskilled labour, as I have alluded to.

Non EU migration was always higher than EU migration - the government has done nothing about non eu migration - it might be that they are not bothered - this news is not surprising.

The point that's being made time and time again is Migration is not going to stop by leaving the EU - we need migrant workers. To pay for our state pension as the UK birthrate is low. We are replacing one lot of migrants with another and if there was any serious attempt to control migration to the UK by the government they could have done it without leaving the EU - for both EU and NON-EU migrants.
