A swing of 6% is not "significant".
Were such a swing to happen at the next general election then Labour could potentially have a comfortable working majority of 30. I'd call that significant.
A swing of 6% is not "significant".
True, but the counter is that if we recriprocate and demand visas from EU's they simply won't come in the numbers they do today - why would they when they can travel round the EU totally freely without charge or bureaucracy?? - so a net gain could turn out to be a significant loss, and we're gonna need tourists more than ever.Or people may holiday at home, which would be no bad thing.
52% of the people are going to get what they deserve. The other 48% just have to suffer along with it

We’ve already had a dress-rehearsal for a “don’t know” in the form of the last general election result.
Thinking back to the 90s, every GE has returned a message of sorts, however the 17 election was very inconclusive.
92 - getting very tired of the Conservatives but don’t quite trust Labour / Kinnock
97 - totally sick of the Conservatives time for something fresh, and want to give the Conservatives a kicking
01 - still reasonably content with New Labour and still don’t rate the Conservatives one bit
05 - fed up with New Labour now but still not keen on the Conservatives
10 - totally fed up with New Labour now, let’s give the Conservatives a go but not with a full mandate
15 - Conservatives have been okay, let’s give them a nudge further, and punish the LDs
17 - Nomansland!
I think the real issue is the country as a whole is very divided on some issues, as well as a certain amount of division being injected by the likes of the SNP. A good PM/government would have found a way to reconcile this, but May simply isn’t a good leader.
Unlike the nice cuddly Labour promises to young people regarding student fees and existing loans?Worth remembering in 2005 voter turnout was very low - loads of people didn't want to endorse Labour but also didn't want to vote against them either. Ever since the 2008 recession voter turnout has been much higher and has gone up at each election. Just under 13 million votes for Labour in 2017 only made them the biggest opposition party, while just over 11 million votes for the Conservatives in 2015 gave them a majority. The Conservatives have a huge campaign budget and like the EU referendum campaigns their 2015 campaign misled the public - trying to claim they were responsible for the nicer policies the Lib Dems forced them to do while reminding us the Lib Dems voted for the unpopular policies.

It's all irrelevant anyway. Every voter is a grown adult, and part of that is being able to analyse information and form a decision.
You cannot run those two assertions together. Yes, every voter is over 18. They do not all have the ability to analyse the information.
A benign dictatorship? Sadly, just like communism, human nature rapidly changes such ideas, and not for the better. So what do you suggest? Never have any form of election?
Which neatly brings us back to why we voted leave.Yes decisions should be made by a shadowy unaccountable elite in a secret smoke filled room.

And they don't have 2 wheelchair bays and a pushchair bay. But we're talking about brexit procedings, not a different group of idiots.Yet you are unhappy when D&G Bus use a bus with a seating capacity 5.7% smaller than the terms the contract was allegedly awarded on.
Of those leading figures that campaigned to leave, who has been accountable for how it's gone since?Which neatly brings us back to why we voted leave.

By "we" you mean just over half the people who voted following a campaign still being investigated for irregularities shall we say?Which neatly brings us back to why we voted leave.

you berk."specific and proximate relationship with the EU"
Except the phrase "shadowy unaccountable elite" very well describes those in charge of the various leave campaigns too.
The idea that Brexit is somehow anti establishment or against this "shadowy unaccountable elite" is hilarious when you look at the people actually involved.
Well done Brexit, you've put in charge someone who

Even if I were the most ardent leave voter, I'd admit this bloke's a clown (he's in the right company) and I certainly wouldn't have voted for goods to be held up, motorways blocked with lorries, flights possibly cancelled, visas for all, the pound slumping and inflation. All to keep a few Bulgarians and Romanians out (who will come in anyway via Ireland) and to keep UKIP at bay (it probably won't).He'll probably find it miraculous that there is actually a tunnel between the UK and mainland Europe.
Boris's Bruv, Jo, has done a runner. Raab would but he'd get lost, looking for a ferry at Southport.More project fear predictions turning out to be true: Goldman Sachs are heading to Frankfurt.

Where's a Brexiteer to defend this stupid situation when you need one? It all seems to have gone very quiet.
Really interesting snap shot. You'll get a mix of:
-Leavers who still want to leave
-Remainers who still want to remain
-Leavers who now want to remain (having seen how its turning out)
-Remainers who would now vote leave (as opposed to *wanting* to leave), as a way of respecting the first referendum
-People who voted last time but can't be bothered / don't want to vote again
-People who didn't / couldn't vote last time and want to / can this time
- People who voted last time now deceased
Now, as much as a total balls up Brexit is turning out to be (for which somebody ought to be held accountable)... now increasingly convinced a second vote won't solve anything..other than essentially returning a "don't know".
Would have to be either a very (unlikely) significant swing to remain - at least 60% Remaim, Or Leave winning with at least the same it did last time, in order to be "conclusive" to the population as a whole.
How will you cope with Trade deals being signed on the condition that we allow freedom of movement between the counties?Indeed I’m a remainer who would now vote leave.
5. Immigration I do think we should have immigration controls, people are fed up in some areas of being overwhelmed by people of a different cultures and yes that also applies to non EU immigration
6. Freedom of movement was ok when the EU countries had largely similar economies but when they don’t you get disproportionate movement, and even without that I’m sure there are plenty of Spanish people who resent the number of British and other EU nationalities living in Spain, even if it substantially helped the Spanish economy.
I think we will see on that one, has trump land really said that I would be extremely surprised! Given the amount of grilling you get just on esta. How will you cope with Trade deals being signed on the condition that we allow freedom of movement between the counties?
USA, Turkey, India, Australia & New Zealand have all said they will not sign a trade deal without freedom of movement (and other concessions)
