Its worse than a "manually" driven one as you are governed more. Junction margins on the Cambrian are now worse because of it.

Is that mean that the driver has to decelerate more that used to be? Does the speedometer deceleration guide helps in anyway?

The drivers have to brake earlier than they would now as the curve is set for them, the driver has little say in it as he has to follow the system or it intervenes.

If ATO was adpoted though couldn't braking be left as late as possible. This is how it seems to be done on the Central line.

I think Central Line scenario may be different to Cambrian Line. Cambrian Line is higher in speed and I suspect the braking distance has been reduced to cater for more train services.

From what Ive seen of it, the braking distance is increased, the current trains can brake a lot later than when ECTS is telling them to.

With ATO though the braking can be left later than with a human driver.

ETCS has ATP element, if it is designed to intervene early, ATO will still have to brake early. So far there is no ATO on any mainline, some of the concerns is that there are different type of trains and different delays scenario.
