Essential vs non essential items discussion

No-one has pointed out, AFAIK, that the wording of the legislation doesn't require any item you're purchasing to be essential to you, so you have no reason to have to get into an argument with the local plod if they're stupid/impertinent enough to start searching your shopping bags for no valid reason.

I think I may have done so somewhere, if not in this thread then elsewhere. Some of the ideas the police have come up with (both individual officers and "policy") indicates that the legislation has not been absorbed. And that's a disgrace considering its far reaching effects.
