ESR at northampton

Does anyone know why there’s an ESR just outside the hunsbury tunnel in northampton?

A TSR will be published in advance (eg for planned track work) in the Weekly Operating Notice and set out accordingly. An ESR is for something that occurs outside planned work so a broken rail for example would warrant an Emergency Speed Restriction being imposed and set up. An ESR has additional lineside equipment such an Emergency Speed Indicator "Dalek" which displays 2 flashing white lights and has an AWS magnet provided for it. A notice would also be sent out to train crew via the Late Notice Case or electronic tablet if allowed by an operator.

As I understand it, an ESR will normally only be in place for a short period of time. If the fault/issue can't be rectified within a matter of days the ESR will be converted to a TSR.

As for TSRs, I think there was a thread a while back that identifed some that have been in place for years.

Yes, an ESR becomes a TSR when published in the WON, so in theory an ESR should last no more than 7 days before becoming a TSR. In theory, anyway.
