Nice bit of info there - I know that last week one of the 97 (37s) was scurrying up and down the Cambrian (main) as light loco, maybe tonight is a more serious test of proper Level 2 with a real train.
Wonder if it's anything to do with Welshpool Down Loop, I believe that's still 20mph only.

Right here goes...
Welshpool loop is open to 50mph and tonights ballast train is nothing to do with that its just a ballast replenishment working to newtown dropping at various sites. For the enthusiast I would go to shrewsbury st as the initial train will arrive hauled by a 66 then I'm guessing the 97's will hook up either at the station or coton hill yard. Should be an interesting night!
The train should be due off sutton bridge box around 22:12.

And the same again tonight but she's running all the way down to Mach. Double headed 37's with 1500 ton in tow.

Just been sent this, so it looks it's too late to get the tamper to Porthmadog:

"about 400 yds. of track was removed at Minffordd Quarry last night."

The tamper will run down to porthmadog tonight under its own power. Its for the minffordd job anyway.

Welshpool sidings will need to be clear tonight no matter what happens otherwise a job cannot take place!

97302 was to drag a tamper to Porthmadog this morning. It only got as far as Welshpool before the GSM-R inside it went kaput, and it and the tamper had to be dumped in the siding. The GSM-R kit inside 304 on Coleham is similarly kaput. 303 will have to come down from Crewe at some point to rescue 302. Photos here:

97303 was at stafford last night on a test train don't know what the working was though

37(97)302 still abandoned in siding at Welshpool this evening, but Tamper fired up with lights on and crew there looking ready for action.
