I've looked on their website and searched on here but can't find any clue as to when the EOR will start running trains again.

Anyone know?

This query has been raised on other sites and I understand that the EOR will not be announcing any opening date until they are sure that all works currently in hand are at or near completion. I get the impression that they don't want to have to rush things at the last minute to open by a particular date!

I understand the EOR will reopen in 2011, provided present works do not reveal more problems than those already known about.

I have no knowledge regarding the Spa Valley railway's progress - it's a bit further away and I don't know anyone who works on it.

Thanks for the replies.

I think the Spa Valley can't be far off given that Southern/Network Rail have issued operational notices advising drivers of the possibility of lots of smoke and steam trains suddenly appearing next to them as they pull into Eridge. Similar notice issued for East Grinstead too.

It's been going quite well on the EOR. Loop is in at North Weald, got a fair few units/locos now, signalling being installed, (got a two aspect colourlight shown in the last newsletter).

North Weald has had all the hard work done as far as I know, we are now testing the signals and will be putting the top of the foot bridge in place in due course. I'll get some photos when I'm down there on the 2nd, as I havn't been for weeks.

The contractors have now moved to Ongar, and once all the stock has been dragged to North Weald (bar the Thumper) the tough work will start there.

On the other hand, far more work has been done to the inside of the building at Ongar than North Weald - swings and roundabouts!

Lots of my photos here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jpg-photography/sets/72157625551555762/

The EOR is progressing towards re-opening at quite a pace at the moment and it is planned to open to the public later this year. However we will not commit to publishing a date until everything is ready and in place. We do not want to open half-cocked if you know what I mean.

As you can imagine there is still a lot of work to be completed prior to this and all the help you can offer will be gladly received by us here. More hands equal faster re-opening.

The jobs requiring attention include P/way, signalling, carriage and wagon, building infrastructure and motive power. So we have plenty to be getting on with.

So why not join up as a volunteer, pop onto our website, see whats happening, come get your hands dirty and help us get nearer to the date of our re-opening.

You can always pop down with a strimmer and tree loppers, I'm sure that the guys would like a hand, only 6 miles or so to do!!

Drat - I wish I was in the area. I could use a little exercise (as a New Year's resolution).
I guess I will drop down the hill from my house and help out at the Railway Museum of Greater Cincinnati this year.
