Enviro 400s

I went to Ross-on-Wye today and noticed a few Stagecoach Gloucestershire Enviro 400s on the 32 and 33 route. One I did see was 15878 (VX 13 FLE); however, I'm not sure if this is an example of an ADL or Scania-bodied chassis. ?

Lucky you! (Ross is my local town, despite living over the border).

We've just had 12 or so of these vehicles arrive to replace a motley collection consisting of a couple of 07 reg enviro deckers, a few 04/54 deckers and a still going strong, R142 EVX. Also in use on the 31 and 24.

I can't say I'm that impressed with the new buses, the seats are nice enough, but I find them quite loud, even at low speeds, and the ride from the top was quite bouncy and not that smooth at all. (The quality of road surface in Gloucestershire & Herefordshire may not be contributing to the situation though!)

I prefer the sound of these.

I presume that there are two seperate bodied types, and two seperately engine types?

If there was no lower deck rear window its a Scania chassis.

In the absence of badging then look at the rear window
Large window with flat bottom = ADL Dennis chassis
Smaller Window with curved bottom = Volvo B9TL* (Usually found with Dublin bus but I believe Arriva took a batch)
No Rear Window = Scania - Scanias also have the Radiator above the engine so look for the higj mounted Grill on the Driver's side

There are other detail differences but that's the easiest.

*There is a one off B7TL prototype that I believe went to Bluestar / Wilts and Dorset, production models are B9

Forgot to say on this matter, the Ross examples have a different sounding engine to the NXWM and Newport Transport ones.
