It doesn't look like it's London Spec (bonded glass, long wheelbase electronic display, non red colours on the body ) - wonder if they've bought it for rail replacement contracts. There's probably enough work for it around London

That one doesn't look London spec as starrymarkb says. Saying that, there have been lots of weekend closures from Strood/Rochester recently and the buses are normally mostly Go Ahead London buses (Southeastern are Go Ahead). They're normally London spec too, that one seems to stand out.

As for the new E400, I like the look of it, but will wait 'til in the flesh to decide if I like it. If they can fix the rattling panels, then great!

This appears to be one of the E400's Go-Ahead bought for their Rail Replacement and Commercial Work.

E283 is a prime example of this...

I notice in the brochure on the ADL website that the single seat behind the driver (under the staircase) appears to have been deleted. Nevertheless an increase in seating capacity is discussed:

I'm sure the E400's never had a seat behind the driver. It was always on the side of the doors that there was a double seat...

It was an option, Only London took it up IIRC, You can see which ones have it by the narrow window behind the drivers cab. I don't think the seat was popular with passengers!

The E400 pictured is one of Go-Ahead London's commercial fleet, so is not TfL spec.

Good comparision of E400/Gemini 2 window sizes tho.

It was a rather weird seat, but given the option of sitting of standing, most passengers prefer to sit. Similarly, the extra seats (introduced on the first E400s)where previously there was wasted space over the wheel arch for most users would be considered a useful improvement.

As do the West Midlands (National Express) ones. Personally never found it claustrophobic - found it had more personal space than having to sit next to someone, and more room for your feet than the double seat at the other side.

I absolutely love the Enviro 400s, although I went on a First Bristol one yesterday (33827) on the X1 and I never realised how bumpy they were!

There's an article in today's issue of Bus & Coach Buyer giving a few more details about the new Enviro 400.

Key Points:
*Chassis lengths of 10.3m, 10.9m and 11.5m.
*TfL spec only available on 10.3m length chassis.
*Low height option only available on 10.9m chassis.
*Thicker seat padding on the fixed seat squabs at the rear.
*Maximum seated capacities: 10.3m 45/29F or 45/25D; 10.9m 49/33; 10.5m 49/37.
*Rubber gasket glazing no longer an option, only bonded glazing using ADL's new Quick Release Glazing.
*Slightly larger cab for the driver.
*New space saving "Squarecase", said to be easeir to use than the standard staircase options at present.
*Front destination display is mounted onto the interior access hatch, providing easier access for maintenance/replacing.
*Enhanced electrical system with better quality cabling, more resitant to heat and corrosion.
*2 fuel tank options reduced to 1 standard option (275 litre) though it has a choke device so it can be limited to 200 litre. The choke can be easily removed if the vehicle is relocated to another depot and requires the extra fuel capacity.
*12% fuel reduction on current tests.

There's other news from ADL too, including a new Gyrodrive parallel hybrid system, the enhancements to the Enviro200 including the new automated manual gearbox, and a virtual electric bus based on the E350H chassis.

If anyone is interested in catching the new Enviro 400, The silver non TFL Spec one is currently out and about with Reading Buses - currently registered as YX64VOO. I have only a brief snap on my phone but will try and phot it when i'm in Reading next week.

Thanks for pointing that out to me, I wasn't aware that any had entered service yet other than as Demos. Does anyone know if the London Demo vehicle is out and about yet?

It is rumoured that 10401-29 due for Stagecoach Manchester will be E400-MMC bodied. In London Abellio have 45 on order and Metroline have 15 on order.
