smileWoke up this morning and started thinking about how earlier id seen a nxwm 61 plate enviro 400 with a facelift front but a “1st generation” engine cover with the enviro 400 text on it and wondered “Hm i wonder how many specifications and variants of the enviro family there are?” so i decided that here is the best place to find some info, maybe such as:
  • Why is it like this
  • Whats the difference between a enviro 200 dart and a gen 2 enviro 200
  • is wikipedia wrong with its “generations”
  • How many individual variants are there as a number between 1 and infinity?

Hope to get some answers and find out some new random knowledge.

Thanks :D

I think this came up in another thread recently, there are a few variations from axle manufacturer which didn't always align with the 1st or 2nd generation change to radiator position, headlight design, front corner etc. There are a number of reasons for this be it operator specification (eg Stagecoach always bought their E200s and E400s with first generation headlights) or supply availability etc.

Ahh makes sense, the supply availability probably answers why a gen 2 e400 had the gen 1 engine cover. Is fun to try and spot all the differences when i see any enviro tho. Could you possibly send a link to this other thread?

Another variation to look out for is some later e200s with the emergency exit in the earlier position in the high floor bit, rather than the low floor area.
This is because they were new as 2-door buses in London and the second door could be counted as an emergency exit. However when they were sold to other places and converted to single door they needed an offside emergency exit adding and it was put in the traditional position.
Go North West had a few, although where they are now with the Bee Network thing I'm not sure.

Interesting, I didn't know that had occurred. Here is YX62DSZ in both guises:
