Was on the 10am Enterprise Service to Dublin on Sunday (7.07.13) and the return service 19,00 hrs back to Belfast. Noticed that there was no MK 3 Gen Coach on both sets 10 am and 19.00 hrs. Have Translink/Irish Rail scraped these MK 3s for some unknown reason that's only known to management in both companies.

The EGV MK3's (Gennie Vans in spotter talk) have been stopped for mods. The Rail Safety Commission had them stopped for a modification IÉ made to their brakes. They made the brakes more like the De-Deitrich coaches in that they can be used from track level. The RSC was unhappy with the welds, they were withdrawn, but I've heard that they could be back in traffic at the end of the month.

I can tell you for sure that the reason for the EGV's being stopped has nothing at all to do with dragboxes being cracked or the bodyside.

A lack of EGV caused Loco 230's fire a few weeks ago

That's ok,four egvs spotted at Portadown on their way to York Road Depot from Dublin. Photos taken by Gordyhawk. Took both companies a long time to admit their mistake and I am sure the thought of another 201 going up in smoke has finally forced the issue. They should have listened to GM.
