Reading my local paper today a man was caught and fined in court for both travelling from gerrards Cross to Marylebone and a 2nd offence of entering or exiting a station without passing through the barriers in the correct manner.
What exactly does that mean ?

Double gated (followed someone through), pushed through them or jumped over them at a guess

Tailgating (i.e. following close behind someone before the barriers have a chance to shut), vaulting the barriers, barging through them. Something along those lines.
