English Electric 37800

Yesterday I saw English Electric 37800 pulling a 4 car 375 through Bromley South on the up slow. There doesn't appear to be much information online about 37800 and this particular unit is skipped in any numbering lists.
Does anyone know about this unit?

Its a class 37 operated by Rail Operations Group - it has special couplers that allow it to haul dead EMUs' about without the need for barrier vehicles.

It certainly gets around a lot, that is for sure. Was working through Steeton on Monday headed for Carlisle.

I saw it earlier in the day stabled in the bay at the north end of platform 1 at Derby. I was only there for about 30 minutes and saw 37800 stabled with
37057/37219/37608 and 37611 all passing through.

I'd argue that class 37s are at least as much fun. I've no experience of jet packs, mind, but lots of class 37s, so I may be slightly biased.

To see five class 37s from three sub classes within half an hour is certainly pretty good going these days.

IIRC 37800 was 1 of the ex spanish examples, they were in a real state & i'm sure were at risk of being scrapped. Apparently it's had the weights removed so isn't really a heavyweight anymore.

Aye it gets about a lot & is certainly something different seeing a heavyweight syphon moving units about rather than a normal 37 diet of freight.

After passing the Research sidings my class 37 tally had reached 11, and 3 class 31's! Not bad for 2017 - Class 37's were rare at Derby when they were all in service in the 1980's.

37608 and 611 looked very smart in their Europhoenix colours - they arrived in the platform 5 bay from Crewe and then set off to Litchurch Lane presumably to collect Bombardiers latest production.

Thats correct, possibly more hiding, and what made me count them. It surprised me!
