Yes i know this is a railway forum but as this is under 'General Discussion' and I'm sure like myself there are many on here who like football too as well as trains so what are your predictions for the game starting in 30 mins ?

I think England will win 3-0.

I have have watched every game so far yesterday and today and i think the world cup has started off great in South Africa (except from the French who sucked yesterday) :D

Yeah Rooney will be targeted by teams throughout the tournament because of his well known temper but he has matured in the past couple of years.

I predict that one (more, even) of our petulant, over-paid, over-rated, Prima Donnas (probably Rooney) will do a "Beckham" and destroy Englands chances by losing their head and reverting to type.

It is a reflection that the REALLY great World-Class players do not suffer from such personality traits and failings. It seems to be a uniquely British thing (McEnroe excepted).

Why is it that England can no longer produce players who can simply play the game and not have to rely on aggression and intimidation to move forward. ?

It is also worth looking at the attitude and culture of the Clubs that develop these attributes, and wondering how much influence money now plays in this.

Beckham's petulance may've cost England the game in the 2nd round of the '98 World Cup. But it's a bit hypothetical. England lost on penalties to Argentina. Would England have won the game with 11 men? Would Beckham have scored a pen if it remained 2-2 aet? Would Engand have gone on to win in the quarters, semis and final? Oh and Simeone admitted that he feigned injury to get Beckham sent off.

As for Rooney, his England disciplinary record has improved immensely since the sending off in the 2006 World Cup, with only 4 yellow cards in an England shirt since then.

Guess you've forgotten about the 1990 world cup final then ....

Quick reminder for people. Argentina had 2 players sent off, and were very aggresive towards the referee, barging him several times when decisions didn't go their way, and they lost 1-0.

Oh, who can forget Zidane in his last match?

I guess it isn't a unique English trait after all.
