I have a 5 hour flight from Tenerife to Manchester next Sunday and find out I have to get a replacement bus to Preston which is just great. I also find out this engineering work will last a month every Sunday but they don't tell us what this work is.

You see, the way it works is they raise prices to do this work but don't tell us what they're doing. I have to admit, it's great service. I'm so happy network rail run our railway, without them where would we be?

Would anyone be kind enough to say what are they doing?

I assume it is part of the electrification scheme?

Although I don't see why the rant and sarcasm is there, along with why you need to know exactly what is being done?

Generally most people don't care. Usually it is just maintenance/renewal work which has resulted in no railway deaths over the last few years. But i believe in this case it may be alterations to bridges and tunnels to fit the electrification masts in. Dont take that as gospel though.

Advance notice of work is made 12(ish) weeks before it actually happens.

I don't quite get what your getting at. Work is generally renewing the infrastructure or in the case if the North West, electrifying lines.
