Engineering Work North of Preston this weekend?

Understand that there may be rail replacement buses north of Preston this weekend. Anyone got any details? (As I can't seem to find anything on the not particularly user-friendly National Rail site!)

All I know is that I will need to get a rail replacement bus from Penrith to Preston on Sunday

Looks like there's some rail replacement buses between Carlisle and Preston from Saturday afternoon onwards, with other services being diverted with longer journey times (presumably being routed via Appleby on the Settle & Carlisle line). But still not seen any details of what's going on anywhere!

Theres a train at 1305 from Preston i think. But expect it will voyagers. In the northwest tomorrow so might go that way to see if theres any potential dragging.

There was plenty of work going on across the north west yesterday. Which was a pain in the arse for me trying to get to work yesterday. Grrr.

Buses were replacing trains between Preston and Carlisle, Blackpool North, Manchester Airport and Halifax, although trains were running to Liverpool, Man Vic and Colne.

Track renewals were going on at Poulton le Fylde yesterday.... btw, does anyone know what the work is thats going on on the "redundant" part of the platforms? The edges have been stripped off and the top layers of brickwork trimmed down. Any ideas?

They are demolishing the disused part of the platform at Poulton le Fylde which will leave enough room for a 6 maybe 7 coach train when finished.

If it is anything like what they have done on the Leeds- York/Selby line, it is more of an extension so they are just renewing the old part which in the case of Cross Gates meant raising the old platforms to the same level as the rest

There is no need for a platform that can hold a 12 coach train at Poulton anymore. The longest that calls is 6 coaches, the part of the platform that is being demolished is long disused and has been growing vegetation for years. The part of the platform that will remain in use that is being used for works access/machine store at the moment is being repaired and repaved as needed while the work is being done you'll notice that the grass 'islands' and plants are being carefully avoided.

So what happens when its electrified and theres a remote possibility of 8 car formations? Re-extend the platform? Or just restrict the EMUs to single unit working?

Was the existing platform actually unstable/unfit requiring its demolition? Just seems like a bit of a waste of time and expense to me.

I think these engineering works are going on for the next few weekends. I'm supposed to be off to Morecambe on 13th March. Unfortunately National Rail indicates rail replacement buses between Lancaster & Preston for me on the way home (after 17:00)
