Trains been disrupted this morning due to a derailment at Westhoughton blocking the Wigan to Bolton line.

Services been diverted via the Atherton line. Looking at RRT I cannot see what train has actually derailed in the area.

National Rail initially said disruption until 2pm, now 10am

Looking at Railcam maps seems the trains which isn't showing an identifier code other then "1TRN" is on the Wigan bound platform around Westhoughton

From RTTs there was a few bustitution services earlier, were there any engineering works overnight in the area? Possibly a train has derailed within the posession

Not anymore, it's not. ;)

Was waiting for someone to say something like that lol

Hopefully it'll be sorted soon enough, and it's good that there is the Atherton line to use as a diversionary route to keep services running, seems like Clitheroe services are getting additional stops at Moses Gate and Farnworth to replace stopping services that run to Wigan that would normally call at those stops.

Disruption now affecting Bolton where only the Clitheroe services are operating, all other services up to 1130 cancelled thus far with some apparently been diverted via Wigan North Western to/from Preston

Remedial work taking place means some trains between Preston / Bolton and Manchester Piccadilly may also be replaced by road transport

I assume the engineering train was working on electrification works?

Derailment seems to be at Lostock Junction hence why Bolton services are affected.

Seems to be all okay now as trains tracking as running though the area on both lines again

The derailed engineering train near Westhoughton has been moved allowing all lines to reopen. Trains between Bolton and Wigan may still be cancelled or delayed while services return to normal. Disruption is expected to continue until 12:30.
