Aye, so I'd expect consultations to begin with staff there before the new stock is introduced.

They already had the consultation, the process to change the group standard took place during 2014/2015. The rules have already changed. So why would they have another consultation now?

Chances are we wouldn't even be having this discussion had the UK adopted continental practice from the 1930s onwards of a triangular headlight arrangement. Instead we carried on for almost half a century without any form of illumination on the front of trains.

Not quite true, as steam and many diesel locos carried front lamps to provide headcodes. Other stock carried illuminated headcode boxes. Both of these were, of course, very dimly-lit compared with today's lasers, and were only really visible at night.
