EMT Weekend First

G'day

A quick question I am travelling from Nottingham to London St Pancras on Sat 14 May and noticed that the 0832 ex Nottingham offers full breakfast service, If I pay the £10 upgrade fee am I entitled to the breakfast service?

The EMT website has this to say on the matter :

Travelling First Class during the weekend and Bank Holidays just got better. With all that extra legroom, you’ll be able to sit back, stretch out and relax. You can also enjoy a complimentary drink and snack by showing your ticket and, if you fancy a little extra, buy a selection of tempting snacks from our buffet service.

I will be travelling with a Standard class 1 Month Britrail Pass.

The EMT site says "a complimentary breakfast service is now offered on selected trains in First Class on Saturdays" so if that's one of the trains, yes.

It seems I can get the upgrade in advance :

If you have an Anytime, Off Peak or Super Off Peak ticket you can purchase your upgrade on board your train or at a Ticket Office. If you have an Advance ticket the upgrade is subject to availability and can be purchased on board your train only.

Are seat reservations available with Weekend 1st purchased in advance?

Seat reservations are available to ticket holders, so if they are allowing it in advance (most operators don't), then yes.

You can buy at the booking office but I wouldn't bother taking the risk as you're still subject to availability and passengers with regular first class tickets take priority over weekend first. The train manager can withdraw availability on the train if it's busy. All of the breakfast trains are generally full in first class certainly by departure from Leicester if not before on a Saturday.

I don't know whether you can buy the upgrade before the day of travel but I don't think I've come across. Obviously if you can't then reservations won't be available.

Some of us get the upgrade for free!

Now, it was at this point I nearly collapsed after walking for so long and so decided to call it a day and go to the East Midlands Trains to collect my Megabus ticket for the 1915 from there to East Midlands Parkway. After the train had boarded, and letting certain people know I was on my way home I received a Personal Message in twitter from East Midlands Trains saying that they were aware I had boarded 1915 STP - EMD and were offering a complimentary upgrade to First Class for the part of the journey home operated by them. I then got to the First Class coach stunned at my luck and questioning EMT as to why when all I'd asked them for regarding the service was a pair of their finest 43s - though this was some days before hand. They refused to say why exactly, only that they knew I was on the train and there was the upgrade on offer. I therefore relocated from A to J and enjoyed all the comforts of First Class travel and all the perks for just an £8 megabus ticket

Btw is the train I am referring to a HST set?, the last time I was on the Midland Main Line it was a class 45 & mk2 cars, I think the loco ran around the train in Nottingham and the train went out the same way it arrived:-?

Yes. It comes from Neville Hill depot. So it's a very safe bet for a HST.

It is definitely an HST just caution the breakfast service is extremely popular always loads get on Market Harborough into first class for there breakfast. Last time I used it first was half full on arrival at Market Harborough and full from there.
